Thank You

To Springfield Friends and Neighbors:

- Thank you for the calls, cards and remembrances for Bob Sisk. His two year fight against lung cancer came to an end on March 19th.
Springfield was his home away from home and he enjoyed thirteen pleasurable winters there. Hitting that little white golf ball was an important part of his Arizona day, along with meeting and greeting friends.

Thank you from Bob's family: Geneva, Joe, Helen, Patty & Robyn

- Esther and I would like to thank the great people of Springfield for the many cards, gifts and phone calls following my prostate surgery. Recovery is going well and I should be back on the golf course within a couple of weeks.

Frank D. Welch

- We cannot begin to express our thanks for all the wonderful cards and prayers we received from the caring people of Springfield. It has helped get us through this sad time of losing our son. What a great community we live in.

Joan and Cliff Jacobsen

- As I leave the Springfield community, I would like to thank everyone who made my thirteen winters here such an enjoyable time.
Springfield was "love at first sight" for my late wife, Barbara Ann and me. The relationship bloomed as we got to know many friendly, helpful and fun-loving people here.
I will greatly miss you and the beauty of Arizona!

Victor H. Pruder, Jr.
Clinton Township, Michigan

- Our Dear Friends,
How blessed are we to live in Springfield. We thank you for your prayers, cards, flowers, visits and your support during this stressful time. Having your loving support made the days easier; it is so good to be home and know your support is still there.

Wendy & Bob Martin

Leftover States Party

Our second Leftover States Party was a great success. We would like to thank all our Springfield residents who attended our Leftover States Party on February 26, 2011.
The evening included a social hour with games followed by dinner and prizes for all.
A special "Thank You" to Mr. & Mrs. Joe Barnes, Mr. & Mrs. Glen Craig, Pat Garvin and Marilyn McGuirl, our committee members for all their help.
We would also like to thank all the merchants that donated to our party and they are Chase Diner, Carl's Jr., Blu Burger Grill, Melted Cheese Kitchen, Krispy Kreme, The Good Egg, The Scorpion Group (Ace Hardware) and Sprouts Farm Market.
We took a survey at the party and it was decided that the food and dessert would remain the same for next year.
This article may seem late, but somehow it got lost from February to now.
Thanks again.

Get Fit - Stay Fit News
Prizes! Prizes! Prizes!
There was a lot of activity at the Recreation Center and around our community on March 26th as residents participated in the second annual Poker Walk/Run. This was a culmination for the 10th Get Fit/Stay Fit season in our community. Those who had turned in their fitness card saying they had completed 25 fitness days were entered into a drawing. Forty participants won prizes as their cards were chosen in a drawing. There were 27 winners in the Poker Walk/Run. Ron Brady, Emery Fanjoy and Steve Christian were the top three winners. $415 was given out. More prizes were also given as there were tables where you would sign up for free items and if your name was drawn you won that prize! Many lucky people on that day!

The Springfield Get Fit/Stay Fit leaders wish to thank the community, the sponsors and the volunteers for their help in making this event such a resounding success. The ballroom was filled with people enjoying the time and fun together. Leaders were Roz Juve, Kathy O'Neill, Pat and Paul Boone, Dorothy MacDonald and Mady Kraus. Volunteers included Sally Lasure, Carolyn Johannsen, Gary Servais, Chuck Kraus, Marilyn Logan, John Wade, Darlene and Bill Clifton, Gary Cole, Barb Krieger, Jean Lansing, Mike Raczkowski, Carole Mc Donald and Pat Van Hole.

A big thank you goes to the many neighborhood businesses and residents who contributed prizes. The businesses that ensured our event would be a success were Amy's Home Care, Burger King, Fry's, LaCasa Blanca, Neo Nails, Pizza Factory, Safeway, The Good Egg, Chen's Chinese Bistro, D'Vine Gourmet, Chompies, Blu Burger Grille, Subway, Springfield Golf Course, Eagle's Nest Grill and Ocotillo Golf Course Restaurant. When you visit these places please let them know you are from Springfield and appreciate their generosity to our programs here in our community.

50/50 tickets were sold. Cheryl Nelson and Gary Cole were winners in that drawing. The other part of the money went to the Get Fit/Stay Fit program for start-up costs for the next season. Dorothy MacDonald will be leading the team with Roz as her advisor. Roz has been the leader for the past 8 years. Rosemary Mazza and Mady Kraus were the leaders for the first two years of the program. We are looking forward to another good year for the program.
As an aside, Roz has said she has a few Get Fit/Stay Fit pins from the year 2000. If you would like one, give her a call.

Springfield Social Club Meeting
April 7, 2011

President Mary Ann Schulte called the meeting to order at 7:00 p. m. Fifteen residents attended. Mary Ann introduced the Social Club's officers. The treasurer's reports were accepted. Various social subcommittees gave their reports. The Kentucky Derby is scheduled for May 7; registration will be the day before. Contact Joan Houchen or Gary Servais for tickets. The Springfield Sound has decided there will only be a Spring Concert scheduled in 2012.

Details for the upcoming bus trips to the Barleen Christmas show on December 17, hot air balloon glow festival on November 18 at the Wild Horse Pass, Kartchner Caverns, and the Mazatzal casino were provided. Tickets for these events will now go on sale right after the monthly Social Club meetings.

Tickets are now on sale for a Spring Fling dance on April 16. The Social Club is auditioning new live bands for future dances and also discussing additional ideas such as a trip to Jerome, Body World and the Brain at the Arizona Science Center, Thirst Day Happy Hour, and a bus trip to the Diamondbacks/San Diego baseball game on September 10. A volunteer to chair a New Year's Eve party is still needed.

Residents may view the Social Club's complete meeting minutes posted on the bulletin board across from the Kiva Room in the Recreation Center.
The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p. m. The next Social Club meeting will be on Thursday, May 5, 2011, in the Springfield San Tan Ballroom. All residents are members of this Club and are invited to attend the meeting.

Sunshine Committee
Sunshine Committee sets Summer Schedule

Though many of us will depart for cooler climates this summer, the Sunshine Committee will remain active and available in its service to the Springfield Community. The committee will hold its last meeting before summer at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3 in the Desert Star Room. There will be no more meetings until Tuesday, Oct. 4 when the winter schedule will resume. Nevertheless, the Sunshine Committee will remain in service.

We maintain a lending closet that provides free of charge, a wide array of equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, commodes, shower stools, canes, etc. to any Springfield resident for up to three months. If you wish to borrow an item in May or June, please contact either Angie McDonald or Muriel Wenthe.

We ask that items please be returned to a Lending Closet volunteer. The names and phone numbers of volunteers responsible for each month are posted on the Lending Closet door in the exercise building and on the bulletin board in the clubhouse. Or you can refer to this newsletter, where monthly articles provide up-to-date information.

When returning items, please do not return them to the HOA office. Sunshine Committee volunteers are happy to accommodate you. All medical equipment is cleaned and sanitized before being made available for further use.

Our memorial luncheon committee will also be available to serve families of Springfield residents who may pass away during the summer. If you wish to schedule such an event, please contact Roberta Hellman. This service is also provided free of charge, but donations are always appreciated.

And, most recently, we have begun a list of items useful for when young children come to visit. Called "Grandma's Closet," this project simply maintains a list of items available to borrow, and serves as a connector linking individuals who are willing to share with those who wish to borrow an item. Mary Ann Schulte maintains the list. If you have such an item to share, please let Mary Ann know.
If you would like more information about Springfield's busy Sunshine Committee, you are encouraged to contact Roberta Hellman or any of the committee's other members. Your interest would be most welcome.

Springfield Sound
Re-Organization

Following our Spring Concert, and our Annual Meeting and Dinner, an Ad Hoc Committee was formed to try to renew interest in the Springfield Sound from new members and members who are no longer singing with us.

It has been decided that Dean Hofland will direct the Springfield Sound this fall. Rehearsals will begin on November 15. One concert will be performed in late February. Rehearsals will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons. New music is being ordered.

A phone solicitation has been initiated with great response.

The Springfield Sound is a group of residents who enjoy singing and making music with instruments. We also enjoy the opportunity to rehearse together and help each other perform at our best level. Obviously the end product is an entertaining performance before the community. We'd like to have 40 singers this year. Sopranos and basses are particularly needed.

If you are new to the community, we invite you to join us. If you have sung with us in the past but have gotten away from us, we invite you back.

We have fun together and look forward to a great year this fall.
